Junior and Senior Pupils Come Together for Joint Learning

Year 6 Students Experience the Benefits of an All-Through Education with Hands-On Lessons

One of the many advantages of an all-through education is the opportunity for pupils to learn from one another as they progress through each stage of school life. Over the past few weeks, Year 6 pupils from the LEH Junior School have enjoyed exactly that experience, visiting the Senior School for a series of Food & Nutrition lessons alongside older students.

The sessions provided an exciting introduction to the subject, giving younger pupils the opportunity to develop practical cookery skills while learning about healthy eating and nutrition in the specialist facilities they will use when they move into Thirds.

Throughout the programme, the Junior School pupils embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and curiosity. As they explored new ingredients, techniques and healthy food choices, they also grew in confidence, asking thoughtful questions and developing important practical skills that will support them both in and beyond the classroom.

Learning alongside Senior School pupils created a welcoming and inspiring environment. The older students acted as positive role models, sharing their knowledge and helping the younger girls feel at ease as they experienced life in the Senior School. These interactions are an important part of the all-through LEH experience, helping pupils build relationships across year groups while making the transition between the Junior and Senior Schools feel both familiar and exciting.

Food & Nutrition is about much more than learning to cook. It encourages creativity, teamwork, independence and informed decision-making, while helping students understand the importance of balanced nutrition and healthy lifestyles. Introducing these concepts at an early stage lays strong foundations for future learning and gives pupils the confidence to continue developing these skills as they progress through the school.

The programme also reflects LEH’s commitment to creating a connected learning community, where pupils benefit from shared experiences and opportunities across every stage of their education. Rather than seeing the move to Senior School as a new beginning, Year 6 pupils are already becoming familiar with the people, subjects and spaces that await them.

We look forward to welcoming these enthusiastic young learners back to the Food & Nutrition classrooms when they begin their Senior School journey in Year 7 and continue developing the practical life skills that will serve them for years to come.
