Preparation for life

This hands-on, creative course brings food to life through practical learning. Pupils develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to design, prepare, and cook a wide range of nutritious dishes safely and hygienically. Along the way, they explore the links between food, diet, and health, and learn to make informed choices about what they eat. Whether building a foundation for GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition or gaining essential life skills, students learn by doing – experimenting with ingredients, refining techniques, and showcasing their progress through a digital portfolio of work.

Beyond the classroom

Students take their passion for food further through inspiring masterclasses with professional chefs and insightful talks from Food Science graduates. They’re encouraged to explore the wider world of food through TV programmes like Great British Menu and Food Unwrapped, and by diving into top magazines such as BBC Good Food.

Futures in food

Food Preparation and Nutrition opens doors to exciting futures – from Food Science and Nutrition degrees to careers as Food Technologists, Dietitians, Nutritionists, or roles in Hospitality and Marketing. Many former pupils have gone on to work in brand identity for major global food producers.
