Shaping the future of STEM

At LEH, we’re not just encouraging girls in STEM, we’re redefining what it means to lead in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Every day, our students are gaining the skills, confidence and inspiration to solve real-world problems, break new ground, and lead global innovation.

We know that when girls see themselves represented in STEM, they achieve extraordinary things. This is characterised in one Sixth Form project – STEM SISTAS, a new podcast produced and hosted by two of our Science scholars that amplifies the voices of women across science and technology and connects students with the pioneers reshaping the future.

From building micro drones and designing packaging solutions to exploring the origins of the universe at CERN, LEH pupils have countless opportunities to challenge themselves, get hands-on, and think big.

A culture of curiosity and challenge

LEH students thrive in competitions across all disciplines and age groups, including:

  • UKMT Maths Challenges
  • Biology, Physics and Chemistry Olympiads
  • Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge
  • Airgineers Micro Drone Challenge
  • Schools Starpack Packaging Design Awards

They also bring STEM to life beyond the classroom through:

  • Annual Big Bang Fair visits
  • Inspiring Goswell Sixth Form Science Lectures
  • Enriching Middle School STEM activity days
  • Action-packed Science Week

From Thirds (Year 7) pupils follow a tailored two-year science course in which the intellectual curiosity of students for the fundamentals of Biology, Chemistry and Physics is nurtured through investigative practical work.

Our STEM subjects

Biology

LEH Biology is about asking big questions and seeking bold answers. From molecules to ecosystems, from cellular processes to human impact. Our girls explore biology’s powerful role in medicine, technology and sustainability, gaining the skills and perspective to shape the future of the living world.

At GCSE students will have the option to study either separate science subjects or Combined Sciences  – an alternative approach towards studying all three disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Mathematics

Our mathematicians tackle complex problems, explore elegant solutions, and compete nationally building confidence, rigour and a love of logical reasoning that underpins every STEM discipline – it has a key role in the development of science, is fundamental to the study of engineering, underpins many social sciences and economic principles and is increasingly used in medicine.

Mathematics is compulsory for all pupils in the Upper School.

This award involved a lengthy selection processes. It was hard won! Ella rocked every stage!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏 #lehsschool
Well done to Japji, Mia, Saskia and Nadia (L6) for being Highly Commended in the prestigious Davidson Inventors Challenge. They showed the key requirements of creativity and passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

This competition is hosted by Cambridge’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CEB), in collaboration with the Association of Science, Technology & Innovation – ASTI and supported by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), this challenge is more than just a competition – it’s an opportunity to be part of something bigger.
