LEH Pupils Bring Myths to the Stage

LEH Students Help Shape New Play Through Write the Girl Initiative

Two of our talented Drama students recently had the exciting opportunity to chat with playwright Lucy Foster as she develops a brand-new play inspired by the myth of Medusa.

Lucy was at LEH to work with a talented and enthusiastic group of LEH Drama pupils in a session which will form part of our Write the Girl initiative, a unique programme that connects schools with professional theatre-makers to create the powerful, meaningful stories that young women deserve to see on stage. Through the initiative, students are given the chance to engage directly with playwrights and contribute to the development of new work, gaining valuable insight into the creative process behind theatre production.

During her visit to LEH, Lucy shared her early ideas for the play and invited students to discuss themes, characters, and contemporary interpretations of the Medusa myth. The session sparked thoughtful conversation, with students exploring how ancient stories can be reimagined to reflect modern perspectives and experiences.

Our students embraced the opportunity to contribute their own ideas and creative responses, helping to shape the direction of the project. Many of the suggestions raised during the workshop will now be incorporated into the final script, giving students the rare experience of influencing a professional theatrical production from its earliest stages.

The play will eventually be premiered by LEH Drama pupils, making their involvement in its development even more special. For aspiring performers, writers and theatre-makers, the workshop provided an inspiring glimpse into the collaborative nature of creating new work for the stage.

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, creativity and insight shown by our students and look forward to seeing Lucy’s vision come to life. Watch this space for more updates as the project develops.
