On Sunday 17th May the J13 rowing squad travelled to Maidenhead for their very first regatta. The atmosphere was full of excitement and anticipation as the seven quads prepared to compete in a series of 500m races. This was a fantastic opportunity to put into practise everything they have been working on during training.
The Maidenhead Junior Regatta is unique in that it gives every crew an opportunity to race twice whether they win or lose their first round which is an excellent introduction to racing. All of the crews were able to experience two races against schools and local rowing clubs. One of the crews made it through four races to qualify for the Final against Guildford. They had this to say about their experience”
“On Sunday, we had our first regatta as a crew at Maidenhead Junior Regatta. It was an early start at 6am. We were the fourth race of the day against Headington School. Headington were the favourites and won the race, although it was close. We faced Guildford in the second race with a similar outcome. The third race was against another LEH crew which was a very tight race and either boat could have won, but we pulled through at the finish. This race put us through to the semi-final against Headington which we won convincingly which put us through to the Final. In the final we met the Guildford crew we had raced earlier in the day, the outcome this time was a lot closer but unfortunately we did not come away with the win. Although we may not have won, this was a great learning experience, and we cannot wait for our next regatta.”

LEH Rowing
Rowing at LEH is more than a sport, it’s a close-knit community built on trust, dedication, and teamwork.
LEH Boat Club (LEHBC) is one of the top girls’ rowing programmes in the country winning medals every year at the Scullery, Schools Head and the National Schools Regatta. We regularly qualify a boat for Henley Royal Regatta and have girls attend GB Trials every year with girls often representing Great Britain at the Coupe de la Jeunesse and Junior World Championships. Through access to top-class facilities and expert coaching, our rowers experience personal growth, resilience, and a winning mindset from Year 8 through to Sixth Form. Along their journey, they will understand what it’s like to be part of a team where every single girl is backing each other, and themselves.
Joining the rowing club means forging lasting friendships and embracing accountability, both on and off the water. Our supportive coaches guide every athlete, making each session a chance to improve skills and build confidence in a welcoming environment. We’re passionate about making rowing accessible to all pupils, offering fun, inclusive activities that spark enthusiasm regardless of experience.
