Exploring the importance of challenging established narratives.
We are delighted to announce our next Be Bold! event, welcoming multi-award-winning journalist, broadcaster and author Kavita Puri for what promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking evening.
Taking place on Tuesday 17 November, this special lecture will explore the importance of challenging established narratives, uncovering forgotten histories and listening to voices that have too often gone unheard. Through her distinguished career in journalism and broadcasting, Kavita has dedicated much of her work to bringing untold stories into the spotlight, encouraging audiences to question what they think they know and look at the world from new perspectives.
Kavita is an accomplished journalist, broadcaster and author, best known for her insightful and compelling documentaries for BBC Radio 4 and the World Service, including The Inquiry. Her work combines meticulous research with powerful storytelling, shining a light on important historical events and the personal experiences of those who lived through them.
One of her most significant achievements is Partition Voices, the landmark three-part series she devised, wrote and presented for BBC Radio 4. The series explored the experiences of people affected by the 1947 Partition of India, bringing deeply personal accounts and previously overlooked perspectives to a wider audience. Its impact and historical significance were recognised with the Royal Historical Society’s Radio and Podcast Award, as well as its prestigious overall Public History Prize.
At this Be Bold! lecture, Kavita will draw on her experience as a journalist and storyteller to consider how the histories we inherit shape our understanding of the present. She will explore why it is so important to question familiar versions of events, seek out alternative viewpoints and make space for stories that challenge conventional thinking.
Her work reminds us that history is never simply one story, and that listening to different experiences can transform the way we understand ourselves, our communities and the wider world. Whether through uncovering overlooked historical accounts or giving a platform to those whose voices have been marginalised, Kavita demonstrates the power of curiosity, empathy and a willingness to challenge assumptions.
Join us for an engaging evening that promises to inspire conversation, encourage fresh thinking and leave you seeing familiar subjects in a new light.
