Pupils in our Ecology Club have been busy enhancing our Nature Garden with a wonderful new addition – a cosy Toad Abode designed especially for our amphibian visitors.
Following a series of nature discovery walks around the school grounds, pupils put their observations, creativity and teamwork into action to plan and build a safe and welcoming shelter for local toads. Using natural materials, they created a cool and sheltered space where toads can rest and thrive within the garden environment.
As part of the project, pupils also learned some fascinating facts about these important creatures:
- ๐ธ Common toads are mainly nocturnal, meaning they are most active after dark.
- ๐ธ They help keep gardens healthy by eating slugs, snails, worms and insects.
- ๐ธ During spring, many toads return to the same breeding ponds year after year.
Creating wildlife-friendly spaces is an important part of the Ecology Club’s work. Projects such as Lilypad Lane help pupils understand how even small actions can make a big difference to local biodiversity and support the habitats of native wildlife.
The project combined nature exploration, problem-solving, creativity and plenty of teamwork, giving pupils the opportunity to learn while making a positive impact on the school environment.
We hope our local toads enjoy their new home on Lilypad Lane and give it a five-star review! โญ๐ธ๐
Well done to all our Ecology Club members for their enthusiasm, hard work and commitment to helping wildlife flourish in our school grounds.
