Netball and Lacrosse: A Busy Week of Fixtures and Tournaments
It has been another busy week of competition for our Netball and Lacrosse teams, with pupils across the age groups representing LEH in tournaments and fixtures. There have been some fantastic performances, strong results and plenty of examples of teamwork, resilience and determination.
Netball
Our new Thirds/U12s had a brilliant first away fixture against Wycombe Abbey on Saturday, with around 60 pupils taking to the courts. The teams were highly competitive and demonstrated some strong match play, securing a high percentage of wins against the opposition. Well done to everyone who took part.
We also had our annual visit to the Ibstock Netball Tournament at Barne Elms, with our U13, U14, U15 and Senior 1st teams all taking part.
U13
Our U13 team finished 4th overall after securing a place in the semi-finals by winning their group. They faced Harrodian in the semi-final before going on to play Surbiton High School in the 3rd/4th place play-off. The team worked hard throughout the afternoon and finished in an impressive 4th place.
U14
The U14 team had a mixture of results in the group stage, finishing 3rd and progressing to the 5th/6th place play-off. After full time, the match went to golden goal, with LEH keeping their composure to secure 5th place overall. A strong performance from the team throughout the competition.
U15
The U15 team had a strong group stage, competing against some tough opposition and performing well as a team. After six matches, they progressed to the 7th/8th place play-off against Kneller Hall. Strong attacking and defensive play saw them secure a 7-6 victory and finish 7th overall.
Senior 1st Team
Our Senior 1st team competed in the Ibstock Tournament on Wednesday, with 14 schools taking part across two pools of seven.
The team made an excellent start, finishing unbeaten in their pool with victories over Ibstock Place, Emmanuel School, Francis Holland School, JAGS and Kneller Hall, as well as a hard-fought draw against Godolphin & Latymer.
Their results secured a place in the semi-finals against Notting Hill & Ealing High School. In a closely contested match, LEH narrowly missed out on a place in the final before facing Latymer Upper in the 3rd/4th place play-off. Despite another strong performance, the team were edged out to finish an impressive 4th overall out of 14 schools.
The team showcased some outstanding netball throughout the afternoon, demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience and determination. Congratulations to Lara and Pippa, who were deservedly named Players of the Tournament for their exceptional performances.
Richmond Borough Netball Tournament
Our Senior 2nd team travelled to Waldegrave School on Wednesday to take part in the annual Richmond Borough Tournament.
The team finished joint 1st in their group and, with points and goal difference equal, progressed to a play-off. They secured a win to reach the semi-final, where they faced Orleans Park School and claimed another victory.
This took them through to the final against Grey Court School. In a competitive match, LEH played very well to finish as Borough winners. Well done to the whole team, with every player bringing energy, teamwork and excellent match play throughout.
The U15B team also put in a strong performance, finishing 5th overall. After two tough opening matches against Orleans Park and Grey Court, the team showed excellent resilience, bouncing back with a comfortable win against LRP.
The team continued to demonstrate great skill, teamwork and link-up play throughout the tournament. In their final game against Christ’s, the defence battled tirelessly and created numerous turnovers, giving the team plenty of opportunities in attack. Well done to all the girls on a brilliant tournament.
Our U16B team also enjoyed a successful tournament, finishing 3rd overall. They demonstrated strong teamwork and consistently impressive attacking and defensive play, securing several good wins along the way.
Lacrosse
On Saturday, our LEH Lacrosse teams travelled to St George’s School, Harpenden, for their first away fixture of the term.
The teams continued their early-season development, getting back into the rhythm of match play across the age groups. There were some competitive matches and strong performances, with a mixture of results across the teams. Well done to everyone who represented LEH.
On Tuesday, our 1st team hosted the first round of the Girls ISLC U19 Tournament. The triangular competition featured St Catherine’s 2nd team and Wycombe Abbey School.
LEH secured two wins, beating St Catherine’s 2nd team 4-3 and Wycombe Abbey 6-5. The team showed determination and resilience throughout both matches, grinding out two hard-fought victories against tough opposition.
We now look forward to the next round of the competition. Well done to the team on an excellent start!
