A fascinating perspective on medieval history
We are delighted to welcome pupils and parents to a special History lecture at LEH with Dr Janina Ramirez, an award-winning historian, broadcaster, author and leading expert on the Middle Ages.
Taking place on Tuesday 6 October from 5:30–7pm, the lecture will focus on Women in Medieval History and promises to offer a fascinating new perspective on a period that is often misunderstood.
The medieval world is frequently presented through familiar stories of kings, knights and battles, but the experiences and achievements of women are equally important to our understanding of the period. In her lecture, Dr Ramirez will explore the lives of women from different backgrounds and examine the ways in which they shaped, participated in and influenced medieval society.
From queens and religious figures to artists, writers and women whose everyday lives have traditionally received less attention, Dr Ramirez will consider the diverse roles women played during the Middle Ages. She will also challenge some of the myths and misconceptions that continue to influence popular perceptions of medieval life.
Dr Ramirez is particularly renowned for making history accessible, engaging and relevant to a wide audience. Through her television documentaries, bestselling books and public lectures, she has brought the stories of the past to life for millions of people. Her enthusiasm for medieval history and her ability to uncover the human stories behind historical events make her a particularly exciting speaker for our school community.
The lecture will provide an opportunity for pupils to extend their learning beyond the classroom and to consider familiar historical questions from a different perspective. It will also offer parents an opportunity to share in an engaging evening of historical exploration with members of the LEH community.
