Before the summer break, several of our Year 7 and 8 pupils took on the challenge of the Junior Kangaroo and Junior Olympiad, following some excellent results in the Junior Mathematics Challenge.
The Junior Mathematics Challenge, organised by the UK Maths Trust, is a fantastic opportunity for students to stretch their mathematical thinking beyond the classroom, tackling problems that require creativity, logical reasoning and perseverance. Those who performed particularly well were invited to progress to the follow-on rounds, where they faced a new set of challenging problems designed to test their mathematical skills even further.
We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of all our students who took part. Congratulations to the following students, who were awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold certificates in the Junior Kangaroo:
Bronze: Elena G, Lily S, Zosia H, Sofia K, Petra W, Mary A, Elizabeth L, Alice B, Gina L, Tara L, Alara J and Amna H.
Silver: Heather Y, Stella Y and Nina R.
Gold: Miranda S.
A particular congratulations goes to Miranda S, whose Gold certificate represents an outstanding achievement in a highly competitive mathematical challenge.
Two of our students went even further. Following exceptional performances in the Junior Mathematics Challenge, Tianqi L and Sophie P qualified for the Junior Olympiad, an impressive accomplishment that reflects both their mathematical ability and their willingness to take on some of the most demanding problems in the competition.
We are so proud of all our pupils for this fantastic achievement which demonstrates the high level of mathematical talent within our school community. We are incredibly proud of everyone who participated in the Junior Mathematics Challenge and its follow-on rounds. Whether our pupils received a certificate, a medal or simply enjoyed the experience of tackling something new and challenging, every student should be congratulated for their enthusiasm, determination and mathematical curiosity.
Academic Enrichment
Competitions such as these encourage students to approach mathematics in different ways, developing their ability to think creatively, look for patterns, make connections and persevere when faced with unfamiliar problems. They also provide an opportunity for students to challenge themselves and discover just how rewarding mathematics can be beyond the curriculum.
