“If someone had told me 20 years ago that one day I would be Officer Commanding of the Red Arrows, I do not think I would have believed it.”

For Wing Commander Sasha Nash, ambition took flight at just six years old. While many childhood dreams change with time, hers remained remarkably clear: she wanted to join the Royal Air Force and fly fast jets.

Today, that ambition has led her to one of the most prestigious leadership roles in British aviation. As Officer Commanding of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team – the world-famous Red Arrows! Sasha is responsible for leading approximately 150 military and civilian personnel, overseeing the team’s operations, training and internationally renowned displays.

Her appointment marks a historic milestone and stands as an inspiring example of where determination, resilience and self-belief can lead.

Dreaming big

Some careers begin with a chance opportunity. Sasha’s began with a childhood dream. She knew from an early age that she wanted to become an RAF pilot and never lost sight of that goal throughout her education., I was a six-year-old girl when I decided I wanted to join the Royal Air Force and fly fast jets. That ambition stayed with me throughout school.”

During her time at LEH, Sasha earned a Sixth Form scholarship before securing a university bursary that enabled her to join the Royal Air Force and begin the journey she had imagined since childhood.

Following her training, Sasha became a Tornado GR4 fast-jet pilot, completing frontline operational tours in Afghanistan before taking on increasingly senior leadership positions within the RAF. Her experience as both a pilot and leader has culminated in her appointment as Officer Commanding of the Red Arrows. one of the RAF’s most recognised and respected units.

In this role, she leads every aspect of the team’s operations, from planning and training to ensuring the wellbeing and development of the people she commands.
