Middle School Production of Shrek the Musical Delights Audiences

Three sold-out performances showcase the talent, creativity and confidence of LEH’s young performers

Last week, our Jane Ross Theatre was transformed into the magical world of Shrek Jr the Musical as LEH’s Middle School students delivered three outstanding performances to sold-out audiences.

Packed with humour, heart and unforgettable musical numbers, this year’s production was a true celebration of the creativity, dedication and talent that defines drama at LEH. From the moment the curtain rose, audiences were transported to Shrek’s swamp, where a cast of colourful characters brought the much-loved story to life with confidence, energy and infectious enthusiasm.

The production featured a series of memorable performances, from the show’s larger-than-life principal characters to the vibrant ensemble, whose commitment and teamwork ensured every scene sparkled. Behind the scenes, students and staff also worked tirelessly on staging, costumes, lighting, sound and technical production, creating an immersive theatrical experience that delighted audiences of all ages.

One of the highlights of the performances was seeing so many younger children in the audience, who enthusiastically embraced the magic of live theatre and were thrilled to venture into Shrek’s swamp to support the cast. Their excitement reflected the joy and sense of community that school productions create, bringing together pupils, families, staff and friends to celebrate the performing arts.

Productions such as Shrek Jr the Musical are about far more than performance alone. They provide students with invaluable opportunities to develop confidence, resilience, collaboration and communication skills while encouraging creativity and self-expression.

Every rehearsal, every costume fitting and every performance contributes to an experience that builds lasting friendships and unforgettable memories.

The exceptional standard of this year’s production has also received wider recognition. We are delighted to announce that Shrek the Musical will be put forward for nomination in the Best Musical category at the National School Theatre Awards 2027, a fitting acknowledgement of the hard work, commitment and remarkable talent demonstrated by everyone involved.

Congratulations to our incredible cast, orchestra, backstage crew, technical team and staff for producing such a spectacular show. Their passion, professionalism and teamwork transformed the Jane Ross Theatre into a magical world that captivated audiences and showcased the very best of Middle School drama at LEH.

We are immensely proud of every student who took part and look forward to seeing where their theatrical journeys take them next.
