Two of our talented students, Ava and Alice, represented the school with distinction on Wednesday 13th May as they travelled to The English-Speaking Union’s Regional Round of the Shakespeare Competition, hosted at Latymer Upper School.
The prestigious ESU Shakespeare Competition is a nationally recognised programme that encourages students to engage deeply with Shakespeare’s works through performance. Competitors are challenged not only to perform scenes and monologues with confidence and creativity, but also to demonstrate their understanding of character, language and dramatic interpretation through a follow-up viva discussion with the judges.
Ava and Alice performed their duologue from A Midsummer Night’s Dream with great flair, energy and comic timing, captivating both the audience and adjudicators. Their performance showcased impressive stagecraft, strong characterisation and a clear understanding of Shakespeare’s language. They also excelled in the viva element of the competition, answering questions with wit, insight and enthusiasm.
Reaching the Regional Round is a significant achievement in itself, reflecting the hard work, dedication and talent required to progress through the earlier stages of the competition. Congratulations to both students on representing the school so brilliantly and on reaching such an impressive stage in this highly respected national competition.
Drama at LEH
At LEH we’re serious about drama. Whether touring original productions to local primary schools, staging a West End musical with Hampton School, or running a show from behind the scenes, we offer every pupil the chance to perform, create and take part.
Recent productions have included an award-winning production of 42nd Street with Hampton School as part of our Hampton School Partnership, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as original plays developed through our Write the Girl initiative. This programme commissions professional playwrights to create new work for large female casts, giving our pupils the rare opportunity to collaborate with industry professionals from page to stage.
