Sports Update, w/c 27th April 2026

It was a busy and exciting week of sport for LEH, with strong performances across cricket and athletics. Both the U15 and U13 cricket teams enjoyed a packed schedule of fixtures and competitions, showing determination, teamwork and impressive individual performances as they progressed in their respective cups. Meanwhile, the athletics season got off to a flying start, with outstanding results at the Achilles Relays, where LEH athletes secured multiple top finishes against strong competition.

Cricket

LEH v Wimbledon High School

The U15s played Wimbledon High School in the first round of the School Sport Magazine last Friday. The team batted their way to 110-6 with Rhythm reaching 50. Wimbledon chased down the score battling against an aggressive LEH bowling attack, taking four wickets.

LEH v Claremont Fan Court School

The U15s returned to the cricket pitch against Claremont Fan Court School in a friendly match on Saturday, achieving a total of 108 for 6 wickets. Rhythm topped the runs with 53 with Tara chipping in 37. The LEH bowling attack, led by Caroline’s three wickets, slowed the Claremont batting attack from chasing down the total. In the last over, Claremont scored the winning runs in a tight contest.

The U13s have been busy in the start to their season. On Saturday, they played against Claremont as well with a number of students making their debuts for LEH’s cricket teams. The team bowled first with the over’s spread throughout the team. Emily led with 2 wickets, while Neave had an economy of 3.00 and Neeva had an economy of 4.00. Claremont reached 126-8 in 20 overs. The team took to bat with 127 the target and they gave it a great effort with Neeve reaching her 50 and putting a 50 partnership together with Emily. The team came up short with 106 runs scored in the 20 overs but a fantastic first match for them.

Schools Association of Middlesex’s T20 County Cup

On Monday the U15 team took part in the first round of the Schools Association of Middlesex’s T20 County Cup against Radnor House School. The team took to the field first and bowled out the oppositions for 66 with Anoushka taking a hat-trick. The team chased the total by the twelfth over with strong batting led by Mira. The team have progressed to the quarterfinal of the competition. Well done to all who played in the fixtures.

The U13 team played in their first cup game in the Schools Association of Middlesex’s T20 county cup against Grey Court School. Grey Court batted first and reached 87 all out with Ashna taking a hat-trick of wickets and Jemima chipping in 2 herself. With 88 the target, the team went into bat and they delivered some wonderful shots. Sienna led the way with 36 from 45 balls. The team reached their target and will progress to the next round.

LEH v Surbiton High School

On Wednesday, the U13s returned to the square to face Surbiton High School in the first round of the School Sport Magazine national tournament. The team bowled first and showed a great improvement in their fielding, making sure they backed up and preventing 4s. Tara led the way with solid bowling and Surbiton set the target of 142. The team went out to bat and, despite their best efforts to chase the score down came up short. Neave and Emily rekindled their partnership from Saturday but unfortunately it was not meant to be. Well done to all the players that took part and represented LEH – a great start to the cricket term.

Both squads are back in action this Saturday against Kingston Grammar School.

Tennis

We have been excited to start our Tennis season with such fabulous weather this week. On Tuesday, our U12/U13 Division 2 Team 1 and Team 2 played their first league match against St Benedicts School. The girls had a tough time competing in the wind and can be really pleased with their performance. Both matches came down to the wire, ending in a match draw, and therefore had to play a shootout to decide the winners. Unfortunately, despite being a close match, both teams lost. Well done to all those who played: Riya, Alexa, Genevieve, Evie, Hannah, Jemima, Angela Joanne.

On Thursday, our U14/U15 Division 2 Team 1 and Team 2 started their league campaign. Both teams played brilliantly despite, yet again, extremely windy weather. Both teams won convincingly, only dropping 10 games out of a total of 48.

Well done to Cecilia, Josephine, Aishnavi, Scarlett, Chinmyee, Lara, Marina, Adela and Aurelia.

Athletics

LEH had a great start to the athletics season, with strong performances at the Achilles’ Relays event, held on Thursday in Oxford. The U16s had a good start, coming 2nd in the 4x400m mixed relay, which we entered with Hampton School. This start was followed throughout the day in the U16 category, with the 3x800m relay coming 8th in a highly competitive field of 13 schools. The U16 sprinters qualified for the 4x100m and 4x200m final, with both teams coming 2nd overall in very fast races. The U14 team had a fantastic day, also qualifying for the finals of both the 4x100m and 4x200m events. Here, both relay teams stormed the finals with convincing wins in both races – special mention to the 4x200m team who won by an impressive 9 seconds. The U14 3x800m team also put in a strong performance, winning their event too. Overall, it was an amazing start to the season, with three 1st place overalls and three 2nd place overalls in very strong competitive fields; we look forward to what’s to come.

Well done on an amazing start to the Summer Term of sport!
