It has been a rather exciting and busy week of sport for our LEH pupils and better weather for it! We have had many sports fixtures and clubs happening with lots of success.
Trampolining
Two of our pupils qualified for the Southern Zonal Trampolining Competition which was held last Sunday in Somerset. Isla (Year 9) and Catherine (Year 10) both competed in their individual categories and competed very well. Catherine competed in the Y10-14 Girls Elite competition and executed an excellent routine enabling her to finish 9th overall in the South Region which is an excellent achievement! Isla competed in the Y7-9 Girls Intermediate category and performed her routine with precision and secured a fantastic 5th place overall which has also qualified her for the National Finals in March! A brilliant day of competition for our two athletes!
Lacrosse
LEH hosted Guildford High School on Saturday with a full block fixture. The weather finally parted and lacrosse could be played. The students started steadily out of the gates after an extended break from playing but by the end of the games, they were pushing hard and challenging the opposition. There were some good results for our U15 teams and some solid performances overall where a variety of teams development was on display in the lead up to Nationals. Well done to all who played.
Yesterday, our U14A team competed in their Tri-Counties tournament at Wycombe Abbey School. They performed admirably with a combination of wonderfully assisted goals, blistering transition and steadfast defence. The team had some close matches but secured some good wins enabling them to finish in 3rd place overall! It was a real team effort and well done to Sophie T who took home the MVP prize.
Netball
On Sunday our Senior 1st and U16 team played in the regional round tournament of the National Schools’ Competition after qualifying in the county round held in November. At the regional round we met the top two schools from Kent, Essex, Surrey and Middlesex.
The Senior 1st team started well with a convincing win against Latymer Upper, however they had some tough competition playing Barking Abbey, Gordon’s, Epsom College and Walthamstow Hall unfortunately resulting in three losses. The team finished the day strong beating Bancroft’s and Sevenoaks schools. Coming off the back of a long break due to Christmas and mock exams, the team gave it their all and took away lots of learnings ahead of their Cup game on Wednesday against Millfield. Our U16A team had a tough group of top schools competing across the Southeast region but played well against all teams. The team performed some strong netball throughout the day and had some narrow losses despite some great defence and attack. They finished strong on a good win against Bromley High School which lifted spirits overall. Well done to the team in a very strong and competitive competition.
On Monday, the U12 netball teams welcomed A-D teams from Sir William Perkins’s School. With some excellent skills and team work, the block fixture saw no losses for LEH, coming away with three wins and one draw. Congratulations to the Players of the Matches: Emily, Arabella, Zoya and Mary.
On Wednesday, the Senior 1st team travelled to Millfield to play in the quarter final of the Sisters ‘n’ Sport competition. The team rallied in the warm-up to start the game with intent, winning the first quarter by one. They were able to extend their lead to five in the second quarter with some incredible turnovers in defence and sharp shooting in attack. A full squad performance saw the team come away with a 32-28 win and progresses them on to the semi-final of the Shield Competition against Churches College on the 11th of February. Well done to the Players of the Matches: Leila and Amelia.
Badminton – Borough tournament
The U16 badminton team took part in the borough badminton hosted by RTS. The team took part in a mixed badminton tournament with two pairs and a single player format. The team battled hard and showed some brilliant shots and teamwork. The team finished 3rd overall. Well done to all.
Our U13 and U14 badminton players played in a friendly match against Sir William Perkins’s School on Monday. The players, who attend our Monday lunch club, played some competitive and tactful doubles matches securing some consistent strong wins. All pairs played each other and LEH secured the majority of wins which was a fantastic result overall. Well done to all who played.
