A Monster Calls: A Huge Triumph!

The Senior School production of A Monster Calls was a resounding success, showcasing the dedication and talent of a remarkable cast of 37 students from Upper 4, Lower 5 and Upper 5. Over weeks of intense rehearsal, the cast worked tirelessly to create a hard-hitting, deeply moving piece of theatre that resonated with audiences. Embracing a stylised and physical approach, they took bold creative risks and pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones, delivering performances that were both powerful and thought-provoking. 

Behind the scenes, an exceptional crew ensured every detail ran seamlessly. From operating complex lighting and sound cues to managing scene changes and backstage coordination, their professionalism and teamwork were invaluable to the production’s success. This creativity and commitment exemplify the collaborative nature of the LEH Drama Department. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this extraordinary story to life! 

We are also delighted to announce that the play has been nominated for Best Play, Best Ensemble and Best Actress for Alexa S, Upper 5 at the National School Theatre Awards 2026.  In summing up the performance the National Theatre Awards representative described the play as “A Visually Striking and Thoughtful Interpretation”, praising our Creative Team as having, “approached this challenging text with ambition and clarity, offering an interpretation that demonstrated both artistic risk and strong collaborative spirit.” They concluded with:

“This production of A Monster Calls was an ambitious and atmospheric piece of theatre. With inventive staging, strong design elements, and several thoughtful performances, the production captured the emotional and psychological intensity of Patrick Ness’ story. It was clear that the cast and creative team approached the material with care and purpose, resulting in a production that was both resonant and artistically distinctive.”
