An inspiring reminder that there is no single path to success!

Be Bold! Lecture: Gabriel Weston

This week, we were delighted to welcome surgeon, award-winning author and TV presenter Gabriel Weston to LEH as part of our Be Bold! lecture series for brave thinking. Gabriel shared her fascinating and unconventional career path. Having studied English at university, with little background in science, she might not have seemed an obvious candidate for a career in surgery. But after completing her degree, her curiosity about medicine led her in an entirely new direction, and she went on to build a remarkable career spanning surgery, writing and broadcasting. Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed hearing her story and were particularly inspired by her willingness to challenge expectations, embrace new opportunities and pursue an ambition that had once seemed beyond her reach.

Gabriel’s journey offered an important message to young people considering their own futures: success doesn’t have to follow a straight line. The subjects you excel at in school don’t have to define your future, and discovering a new passion can open doors you never imagined. Curiosity, determination and the courage to change direction can be just as important as having a clear plan from the outset.

A wonderful example of the brave thinking at the heart of our Be Bold! lecture series.
