Outstanding performances in the Junior Maths Challenge highlight the depth of mathematical talent and enrichment at LEH Junior School.
Huge congratulations to Year 6 pupils Enara and Sophia, who have achieved exceptional success in this year’s Junior Maths Challenge, demonstrating the enthusiasm, resilience and problem-solving skills that are nurtured throughout LEH Junior School.
Both pupils performed so strongly in the national competition that they qualified for the prestigious Olympiad round, an impressive achievement in itself and one reached by only a small proportion of participants across the country. Sophia was awarded a Merit, while Enara achieved the outstanding accolade of a Distinction, recognising their exceptional mathematical ability and performance at one of the highest levels of the competition.
The Junior Maths Challenge, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT), encourages pupils to think creatively, apply logical reasoning and tackle complex mathematical problems beyond the National Curriculum. Success requires far more than quick calculation; pupils must demonstrate perseverance, strategic thinking and the confidence to approach unfamiliar challenges.
At LEH Junior School, mathematics is about developing curious, capable and confident learners. Through inspiring classroom teaching, enrichment opportunities and extension activities, pupils are encouraged to explore mathematics in greater depth, challenge themselves and enjoy solving problems in new and imaginative ways.
Competitions such as the Junior Maths Challenge allow pupils to put these skills into practice while fostering a lifelong love of learning. Whether tackling mathematical puzzles, collaborating with classmates or competing nationally, girls are supported to embrace challenge and celebrate achievement.
Enara and Sophia’s success reflects not only their hard work and determination but also the vibrant culture of academic curiosity that underpins mathematics at LEH Junior School. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to younger pupils, demonstrating what can be accomplished through dedication, resilience and a willingness to think differently.
We are incredibly proud of Enara and Sophia for representing LEH Junior School so brilliantly and congratulate them both on this fantastic achievement.
