Gold, Silver and Bronze award winners place in the top 15% of 42,000 entrants nationwide
This May, 42,000 students from schools across the country took part in the Biology Challenge, a prestigious competition organised by the Royal Society of Biology. Designed to encourage and reward excellence in biology, the Challenge provides an opportunity for students to extend their knowledge beyond the GCSE curriculum and engage with biological concepts in greater depth.
Participants completed two demanding 30-minute papers that tested not only their understanding of GCSE Biology but also their ability to apply knowledge to unfamiliar situations, interpret data, and tackle problems requiring logical reasoning and scientific thinking. The competition is renowned for its challenging questions, which often draw on ideas and concepts beyond those encountered in the classroom.
We are delighted that so many of our Year 10 students embraced this challenge and achieved such impressive results. In particular, we would like to congratulate Sofia, Isla and Eliana, who achieved Gold awards. This places them among the top 5% of all participants nationwide and is a remarkable achievement that reflects their exceptional scientific understanding, curiosity and problem-solving skills.
Congratulations also to Gece, Jupp, Laaibah, Harriet, Cecilia, Annabel, Tory, Kitty and Kayona, who received Silver awards, placing them in the top 10% of entrants. In addition, Nairu, Amelie, Emma, Aaria, Emily, Bella, Eshaal, Meri, Yara, Annabel, Amie, Estella, Nuriyah, Isha and Safiya were awarded Bronze certificates, placing them within the top 15% of competitors.
These outstanding results are a testament to the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication shown by our students. We congratulate all those who took part and commend them for their commitment to academic excellence and their willingness to take on such a demanding challenge.
