Our Talented Linguists Reach the MFL Poetry Competition Final

A celebration of language and performance

Our talented Year 8 linguists have been showcasing their language and performance skills in our Modern Foreign Languages Poetry Live competition and we are delighted to reveal our finalists.

Representing French is Sofya, who will perform La Tour Eiffel by Maurice Carême. The poem is celebrated for its vivid imagery and playful style, making it a popular choice for performance. In the German category, Amna will present Schneeflocken by Heinrich Hoffmann. The poem captures the beauty and delicacy of falling snowflakes and offers students an opportunity to demonstrate expressive pronunciation and interpretation. Representing Spanish is Alara, performing Pienso Mesa y Digo Silla by Gloria Fuertes. Known for her imaginative and accessible poetry, Fuertes’ work continues to inspire language learners through humour and creativity. We will also have two reserve finalists attending.

The final will take place on 17 June 2026 at LEH and promises to be an inspiring evening celebrating language learning, confidence, and performance. Congratulations to all finalists, and best of luck for the competition in June.

Languages at LEH

At LEH, we believe that mastering languages is more than an academic achievement; it’s a gateway to the world.

Our rich and supportive language programme empowers pupils to communicate with confidence in new languages. As their fluency grows, so does their ability to connect, collaborate and think across cultures, skills that are vital in a globalised world.

Language lessons at LEH are designed to challenge and inspire. They nurture resilience, adaptability and self-assurance, while complementing every other subject from the Humanities to the Sciences. Through languages, students gain deeper insight into global issues, international perspectives, and their place in a broader world.
