Some of our Year 8 and Year 9 keen performers enjoyed an inspiring and energetic day taking part in a specialist workshop led by British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT), one of the UK’s leading organisations for young people passionate about musical theatre.
The intensive two and a half hour workshop immersed students in all three core disciplines of musical theatre: acting, singing and dancing, giving them the opportunity to learn directly from experienced industry professionals. Designed to challenge and inspire, the session encouraged students to develop their performance skills, build confidence and explore new creative approaches in a professional rehearsal-style environment.
As part of the workshop, students worked with professional singer-songwriter Chisara Agor on her brand-new musical, The Garden, gaining a valuable insight into the process of developing original musical theatre. In acting sessions, students explored the delivery of subtext in comedic scenes with director and casting agent Cerys Jones, learning techniques used by performers to bring depth, timing and nuance to their roles.
It was wonderful to see students stepping confidently outside their comfort zones, embracing new challenges and responding enthusiastically to professional feedback throughout the day. The workshop also carried an added sense of excitement, as the BYMT team were actively identifying students with the potential to be invited onto their prestigious summer programme.
The experience proved both motivating and memorable for everyone involved, and we look forward to hearing whether any of our students are selected for this exciting next opportunity.
Drama at LEH
At LEH we’re serious about drama. Whether touring original productions to local primary schools, staging a West End musical with Hampton School, or running a show from behind the scenes, we offer every pupil the chance to perform, create and take part.
Recent productions have included an award-winning production of 42nd Street with Hampton School as part of our Hampton School Partnership, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as original plays developed through our Write the Girl initiative. This programme commissions professional playwrights to create new work for large female casts, giving our pupils the rare opportunity to collaborate with industry professionals from page to stage.
