On Wednesday 29th April, our pupils took part in the Junior Mathematics Challenge – a competition which encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and problem solving. An impressive 37 students achieved a Gold Award. Congratulations to all of them, and special congratulations to the following three students who qualified for a follow-on round: Annabelle (Year 8); Tianqi (Year 7) and Sophie (Year 7).
LEH students excel in many national Maths and STEM competitions, including recently the St Swithun’s School Mathematics Challenge where eight of our Year 8 and Year 9 pupils competed in teamwork and problem-solving challenges and the Liverpool Maths Challenge where one of our Year 7 mathematicians won first place.
Maths at LEH
Our mathematicians tackle complex problems, explore elegant solutions, and compete nationally building confidence, rigour and a love of logical reasoning that underpins every STEM discipline. Maths plays a key role in the development of science, is fundamental to the study of engineering, underpins many social sciences and economic principles and is increasingly used in medicine.

Shaping the future of STEM
At LEH, we’re not just encouraging girls in STEM, we’re redefining what it means to lead in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Every day, our students are gaining the skills, confidence and inspiration to solve real-world problems, break new ground, and lead global innovation.
We know that when girls see themselves represented in STEM, they achieve extraordinary things. This is characterised in one Sixth Form project, STEM SISTAS, a new podcast produced and hosted by two of our Science scholars that amplifies the voices of women across science and technology and connects students with the pioneers reshaping the future.
From building micro drones and designing packaging solutions to exploring the origins of the universe at CERN, LEH pupils have countless opportunities to challenge themselves, get hands-on, and think big.
