Upper 1 Bring History to Life in Kingston

Upper 1 launched the Summer term with an exciting and immersive trip to Kingston upon Thames, stepping back in time to explore life in Anglo-Saxon England.

A highlight of the visit was a dynamic, hands-on workshop where pupils took part in a reenactment of the coronation of King Athelstan. Through this experience, they gained a vivid understanding of royal traditions, as well as the customs and daily life of the Anglo-Saxon period. The session brought history to life, encouraging curiosity and active participation throughout.

The group also visited the historic Coronation Stone, a site of great national significance. Traditionally believed to be the place where seven Anglo-Saxon kings were crowned, it provided a powerful connection to England’s early history and helped contextualise the learning from the workshop.

Throughout the day, Upper 1 demonstrated outstanding enthusiasm, engagement, and a genuine eagerness to learn. They approached every activity with energy and respect, embodying the school’s values at all times.

This enriching trip offered a memorable start to the term, deepening historical understanding while inspiring a lasting interest in the past.
