At LEH, we know that exam results aren’t everything, but they open doors. To the university of your dreams. To careers that challenge and inspire. To a future that you get to shape. That’s why academic excellence sits at the heart of the Sixth Form experience.

You’ll follow a two-year linear programme, with A level exams taken at the end of the Upper Sixth. Most students will choose to study three or four A levels, alongside the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) – a chance to explore a subject you’re passionate about in real depth, while developing research, presentation and academic writing skills that universities love.

You’ll also sit internal exams at the end of the Lower Sixth and mock exams in January of Upper Sixth, so you’re well-prepared and confident when it counts.

We offer flexibility and independence, including in how you work; you will bring in your own laptop through our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) scheme.

Three or four A levels? It’s your choice.

Three A levels may suit you if:

  • You would like to specialise early and focus deeply on subjects that align with your university plans.
  • Are confident in your subject choices and want to balance academic work with wider reading, EPQ, and co-curricular opportunities.

Four A levels may be right if you:

  • Thrive on challenges and want to broaden your academic horizons.
  • Are still exploring your university options and value the flexibility four subjects provide.

Whatever you choose, we’ll support you to aim high and reach higher. We’ll always do our best to accommodate your first-choice subjects, though occasionally we may not be able to run a course if fewer than three students opt for it. For new courses, we may require a larger number to ensure a rich and rewarding classroom experience.

Play to Your Strengths, Follow Your Passions

At LEH, we believe A level success comes from a combination of passion and purpose. When choosing your subjects, think boldly, but wisely. What do you love? Where do you shine? Which subjects will stretch you and bring you joy?

We encourage students to select A levels in subjects where they’ve already demonstrated strong achievement and genuine interest. As a guide, we recommend choosing subjects in which you’ve achieved a Grade 8 or 9 at GCSE, and we require at least a Grade 7 to take that subject at A level.

Some subjects are more demanding from the outset. For Mathematics and Physics, a Grade 8 is required, and a Grade 9 is strongly recommended to ensure you’re ready to thrive from the very beginning.

Your Sixth Form journey is yours to shape, and it starts by making choices that challenge, excite and empower you. We’re here to guide you every step of the way.
