The LEH Boat Club enjoyed an exceptional run of success across two major national events this month, delivering their strongest-ever performance at the Schools’ Head of the River before continuing their momentum at the Junior National Sculling Head.
A Landmark Day at Schools’ Head
On Friday 13 March, LEH’s J15, J16 and Senior squads competed at the Schools’ Head of the River, widely regarded as the ‘winter nationals’ and the largest head race of the season, bringing together top school and club crews from across the country.
It proved to be a historic day for LEH. Every crew returned with silverware, making it the Boat Club’s most successful Schools’ Head campaign to date!
The Senior First Eight delivered an outstanding performance, finishing fourth overall against three leading scholarship programmes to secure a prestigious Venetian Pennant.
In the J16 category, our Second Eight delivered a dominant performance to take Gold in their division while our First Eight claimed Silver.
The J15 squad also impressed across all crews: another Gold for our Third Eight while our First Eight secured Bronze and the Second Eight finished a close second.
Continued Success at Dorney Lake
The following day, LEH crews travelled to Dorney Lake to compete at the Junior National Sculling Head, facing strong opposition from some of the country’s top sculling programmes.
The Senior and J16 crews once again demonstrated their strength and depth, recording multiple top-10 finishes in highly competitive fields of around 40 entries.
J14 Squad Steals the Show
The standout performances of the weekend came from our J14 squad, who delivered a truly remarkable set of results.
Racing in a field of 36 boats, the J14 A Octuple stormed to victory winning by an extraordinary margin of 32 seconds in a race lasting approximately 14 minutes.
The success did not stop there. LEH’s depth was on full display as the B Octuple finished as the fastest B boat by nearly 20 seconds, while the C Octuple also recorded the fastest time in their category. Collectively, these results firmly establish LEH as the fastest J14 squad in the country!
Two LEH J14 coxed quads also competed strongly in a challenging event, rounding off an impressive showing from the youngest athletes in the programme.
A Programme on the Rise
These results reflect the dedication, teamwork and talent across all age groups within LEH Boat Club. From the senior crews competing at the highest level to the emerging strength of the J14 squad, the programme continues to build momentum and deliver success on the national stage.
