Eight members of Lower and Upper Sixth had the fantastic opportunity to go to Granada for an A level Spanish trip. From staying with Spanish “abuelas” to doing work experience in local businesses, the girls were totally immersed in Spanish culture and life. Read Upper Six student, Polina Popovtseva’s account of the trip below:
“Each of us had a unique experience at our work placements: absorbing wise ideas at old people’s homes, discovering the best Andalucian climbing spots at an adventure shop, perfecting the art of a morning cortado for locals, and everything in between.
Our Spanish lessons in the afternoons were full of exciting (and sometimes heated) debates, with some practice of the subjunctive too, of course!
After school, a quick sweet treat had us energised for the evening to come: an authentic Flamenco experience, a night time tour around Granada to see the Arabic vestiges in the city and a reading of Lorca’s poetry at his summer house were just some of the many highlights or the trip.
It’s safe to say that our six days in Granada were some to remember. The time flew by, but the memories we made and the things we learnt will last forever. Some of us are already making plans to return to Granada on holiday to reunite with our host families!”
