At LEH Junior School, we believe that a happy child is a successful learner. That’s why wellbeing is woven into every aspect of school life. We place just as much emphasis on emotional development and mental health as we do on academic achievement, creating a caring, respectful and inclusive environment where every girl feels safe and valued.

From the moment pupils arrive each morning, they are greeted with warmth and positivity. Teachers and staff work hard to ensure that every child is known as an individual and supported through both highs and lows. We know that a listening ear, a kind word or a little extra encouragement can make all the difference.

Behaviour in the school is positive, productive and relaxed. Pupils are polite and respectful and, as a result, there is a palpable sense of belonging and community.

Our Wellbeing Programme

Our Junior School Wellbeing Programme is designed to help every child feel safe, confident, and ready to learn. Through activities, reflection, and positive relationship-building, pupils develop the skills they need to understand their emotions, care for their bodies and minds, and support one another. The programme encourages kindness, resilience, and a sense of belonging, empowering students to navigate challenges and celebrate their strengths both in and beyond the classroom.

  • Monday morning wellbeing check-ins with every child where any worries can be shared and discretely followed up by Form Tutors and Pastoral leads as needed.
  • Weekly BOUNCE lessons focused on emotional resilience and developed with leading psychologists.
  • Wellbeing Wednesday sessions, giving time and space for reflection, discussion and creative expression.
  • Mindfulness courses for older pupils, supporting calm, focus and self-regulation.
  • Paint and Chat sessions, offering girls a relaxed way to talk and connect.

We also celebrate Wellbeing Day annually – a joyful, off-timetable experience featuring everything from mindful colouring and clay modelling to visits from therapy animals. It’s a chance for everyone – including staff – to reset and recharge.

Our pupils are also supported by a full-time school nurse and a specialist mental health coach. Leadership and responsibility are encouraged through roles such as Peer Mentors, House Captains, Eco Squad members and Digital Leaders. Every Form 1 (Year 3) pupils has an Upper 2 (Year 6) Big Sister who reads with her, joins her for lunch and plays with her at break times; helping every new pupil to settle quickly and develop friendships beyond her class.

We champion healthy digital habits and are proud advocates of a smartphone-free childhood. Girls are taught how to navigate the online world safely while also developing an appreciation for screen-free time, nature and face-to-face friendships.

We work in close partnership with parents through regular updates, open communication and expert-led workshops. We invite parents to be part of school life and to share in their daughter’s growth and achievements.

At LEH Junior School, care and connection come first – because strong roots lead to confident growth.
