An inspiring and stimulating curriculum

LEH Junior School is a joyful and inspiring place where bold beginnings are established and where pupils discover their potential. Our pupils are nurtured to be curious, creative, kind and confident, surrounded by a warm and inclusive community that celebrates every individual. From their very first day, pupils are encouraged to think independently, take risks, lean into opportunities and discover who they are in a safe, supportive environment. Every pupil enjoys a stimulating and stretching curriculum and consistently high levels of academic excellence.

At LEH, learning is exciting, empowering and fun. We believe in the power of possibility – and we provide all the right conditions for every girl to thrive. Our pupils are given room to explore their ideas, challenge themselves and to grow both academically and personally. They are supported by passionate, highly skilled teachers and staff who care about their wellbeing, progress and, most importantly, their happiness and fulfilment. Our school values shape the experience every child has, and we provide every pupil with an outstanding education, which includes academic stretch through a dynamic curriculum, personal development and resilience building, opportunities to try and experience a range of extra-curricular activities, alongside a vibrant array of co-curricular events within and outside of lesson time.

We understand that confidence grows from being known and understood. That’s why our pupils benefit from a personal and tailored approach to learning, where every girl is recognised as an individual and supported to flourish. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, in the music room or leading a community project, every voice is heard, and every pupil is encouraged to shine.

Our 24-acre site gives girls the freedom to move, think and grow. Junior School pupils benefit from their own dedicated learning spaces, including a library, science lab and art studio, and also share outstanding Senior School facilities just across the bridge. From the swimming pool to the theatre, our shared campus enhances every stage of their education. We value the importance of play, with opportunities to learn through every exciting activity. Our campus gives us the space to take our learning outside – with pupils exploring our nature garden, pond dipping and hunting for mini-beasts, cosying up with book in our reading hut and teepee or enjoying time with friends in our brand new outdoor adventure playground.

We take pride in the strong foundations we build – not just academically, but emotionally and socially too. LEH Junior girls are confident, compassionate and full of potential. This is a school where friendships flourish, resilience develops, and futures begin to take shape.

Your daughter’s adventure begins here – and it promises to be extraordinary.

Our Curriculum

At LEH Junior School, we believe that a love of learning starts with an exciting, balanced and thoughtfully designed curriculum. We blend academic rigour with real-world exploration, sparking curiosity and giving every girl the chance to thrive. Our approach helps pupils to develop independence, creativity, and deep thinking from the earliest years.

Our pupils are taught by talented highly skilled teachers and dedicated subject specialists in Science, Computing, Modern Languages, PE, Music, Drama and Art and Design Technology. We support every girl to achieve her personal best – encouraging ambition, resilience and original thinking along the way. Mistakes are embraced as learning opportunities and effort is consistently recognised and celebrated.

Our curriculum includes:

  • Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Science form the foundation of our academic programme.
  • Humanities: History, Geography, Philosophy and Religious Studies deepen pupils’ understanding of the world.
  • Languages: French is taught from Year 3, with Spanish in Year 6.
  • Creative Arts: Weekly lessons in Music, Drama and Art and Design Technology provide opportunity for creative expression and problem solving.
  • Wellbeing & Life Skills: Our PSHE programme, alongside Mindfulness and BOUNCE lessons, builds emotional intelligence, communication skills and resilience.
  • Physical Education: A wide range of sports ensures that pupils develop strength, coordination and confidence.
  • Curious 6 Programme: This exciting ‘curious’ programme, designed specifically for Year 6 pupils, goes beyond the core curriculum to ignite curiosity, develop essential skills, and foster creativity. Led by our passionate ‘Curious team’ of teachers, the  programme offers a six-part series of exciting half-termly topics that will challenge and inspire our pupils. Current topics include Latin, Careers and the World of Work, Government and the legal system, STEM investigations, Global Citizenship and Life Skills.

Tailored stretch, challenge and support

We closely monitor each child’s progress using standardised assessments and teacher observations. We regularly review data to help us understand how every pupil is progressing. Targets are tailored to stretch and support every pupil, and any extra help is offered through personalised interventions. It’s not just academic data we look at – we also review wellbeing data to ensure that every child is supported to thrive both personally and in their learning – because our goal is for every girl to enjoy success and fulfilment in its broadest sense.

Beyond lessons, learning continues through our rich co-curricular programme. From Robotics and Choir to Netball and Chess, there’s something for every interest. Pupils also enjoy workshops, visiting speakers, competitions, themed weeks and regular educational trips that bring learning to life.

There is no requirement for our pupils to take the 11 plus entrance exam to transition to LEH Senior School (just a hop, skip and jump across the bridge that connects the two sides of the LEH campus).  Instead, we regularly review each pupil’s progress, attainment and wellbeing data to make sure learning is tailored to every child and that they have the knowledge and skills to thrive at LEH in every key stage. We know every pupil well and help them to develop independence and confidence that supports them as they move into Year 7 and well beyond.

Our goal is to ensure that each girl leaves Junior School not just well-prepared for the next stage of her education, but excited for it – with the skills, knowledge and mindset she needs to embrace all the opportunities ahead.
