Actions and Intentions

Our Inclusion and Diversity programme is driven by a dedicated team, including senior members of staff, governors, and our teacher-led Inclusion and Diversity Champion. Together, they oversee and implement initiatives that have real impact across the school. Actions have included community discussion groups led by an external moderator, with alumnae, former staff, and parents, to explore how we celebrate the history and culture of people of colour within our curriculum and increase representation within leadership; a comprehensive staff and student survey to evaluate inclusion at LEH, with findings currently shaping targeted training and strategy; a review of recruitment practices by the HR department to ensure inclusivity and attract a diverse range of applicants; and staff training focused on embedding inclusive behaviour in everyday interactions and classroom practice, and developing confidence in discussing and challenging racism.

Pupil Voice and Leadership

Our pupils play a central role in shaping an inclusive culture at LEH. A group of enthusiastic Lower Sixth Inclusion Representatives work alongside the Feminist Society and Pride Society on campaigns and awareness events throughout the year. They regularly lead assemblies and activities around themes of identity, heritage, and equality. We have Diversity Reps in each year group, giving pupils across all ages a platform to share their views and represent their communities. The inclusive lunchtime club, APoC (All People of Colour), is open to everyone and provides a safe, welcoming space for discussion and celebration of culture, festivals, and current affairs.

What I Wish You Knew

We hold regular pupil-led inclusion ‘What I Wish You Knew’ assemblies where pupils give honest, powerful and informative presentations on lived experiences on inclusion and diversity topics to promoting empathy, understanding, and dialogue across the school community. Topics have included race and ethnicity, faith, gender and sexual orientation, disability, and cultural identity.

Events Programme

Inclusion at LEH is celebrated and explored all year round through a vibrant programme of events including, Black History Month, religious festivals, LGBTQ+ History Month, Pride Month, International Women’s Day, and Culture Day.

Culture Day

Organised by our Inclusion Champions, this joyful celebration features a whole-school Culture Fair, performances, and a cultural non-uniform day.

Inclusion and Diversity at LEH is not a one-off initiative. It’s a continuous, evolving commitment that’s driven by our pupils, guided by our staff, and supported by our whole community.
