Joining LEH Junior School

LEH Junior School is a vibrant, welcoming community where curiosity is celebrated, and every day is filled with discovery and creativity. It’s a place where children thrive academically in a caring environment where happiness is the key to success.

Our pupils are full of energy and enthusiasm, and their love of learning is infectious. Guided by a dedicated team of experienced specialist teachers, they’re encouraged to work hard, think boldly, and explore every opportunity with confidence.

Admissions Process

Girls join Year 3 after a friendly, age-appropriate assessment process designed to replicate a normal classroom environment. Our Junior School pupils then transition to our Senior School in Year 7 without the need to take the 11 Plus assessment.

  • Stage 1: All applicants complete Mathematics and English assessments.
  • Stage 2: Applicants who perform well in the assessments will be invited to take part in a follow-up fun problem-solving activity session.

Applications are accepted during the calendar year prior to the proposed year of admission to the school. We do not offer scholarships or bursary places at LEH Junior School.

Please note that the deadline for 2026 entry has now passed, however; if you missed the deadline and are still interested in entry in September 2026, please do contact us at registrar@lehs.org.uk for advice.

Occasional Vacancies
(Years 4, 5 and 6)

We welcome applications for occasional vacancies in Years 4, 5 and 6. All applicants will complete computer-based reasoning assessments on-site at LEH and may be invited to attend an observed Mathematics and English-based activity session. Reports may be requested from each pupil’s current school.

Junior School FAQs

Q: When should I apply for my daughter to join LEH?

A: Applications should be made between April and the application deadline (usually early November) of the year preceding the proposed year of entry to the school. Applications seeking special consideration in assessments should be submitted in time for review by the Head of Learning Support. This year, the deadline for September 2026 applications was midday on Tuesday 4th November 2025.

If you missed the deadline and are still interested in entry in September 2026, or have any questions, please contact the Admissions department for advice.

Q: How many places are available at 7+?

A: There are 48 places available for entry to the Junior School at 7 Plus.

Q: What format do the assessments take for entry at 7+?

A: For entry at 7 Plus pupils complete Mathematics and English assessments and may be invited to attend an observed problem-solving activity session.

Q: Do you recommend tutoring before the assessments?

A: We do not recommend tutoring, although it is sensible to ensure your daughter is prepared for assessment-style conditions and to working in a timed environment. If your daughter has never previously worked in timed conditions, you may wish to prepare her at home for this style of working. The setting for the entrance assessments aims to ensure each girl is relaxed and able to work at her best.

Girls take the assessments in small groups of up to 24 in an ordinary classroom with two teachers who are experienced at working with this age group. Breaks and a biscuit and drink are given in between assessments.

Q: Will you contact my daughter’s current school, if so, when?

A: For entry to the Junior School, we may request a reference from the Head of your daughter’s current school during December or January. LEH will comply with the Code of Practice for Schools, as agreed by the five prominent headteachers’ associations in the UK.

Q: Do you give extra time to girls with special educational needs (SEN)?

A: If your daughter has a documented special educational need please send a copy of the educational psychologist’s report with your application. If the report recommends additional time in the entrance assessment, then this will be offered in line with any regulations covering such areas. Please do get in touch with the Registrar if there are any specific issues affecting your daughter’s application before the entrance assessments.

Q: Can I apply for a bursary or academic scholarship?

A: Bursaries and scholarships are not available for entry to the Junior School. Junior School pupils can apply for all Senior School scholarships during Year 6, ahead of transitioning to LEH Senior School.

Q: Can my daughter take the entrance assessments at her current school overseas?

A: We can arrange for your daughter to take the entrance assessments overseas, although it is preferable to attend the assessment day in person. Please email the Registrar for further information.

Q: From which schools do girls typically join LEH?

A:  Pupils join from a wide variety of both state and independent schools. Everyone is welcome at LEH.

Q: From what areas do girls attend LEH?

A: There is a wide catchment with many pupils travelling to school from the local area and further afield. Our coach service enables pupils to attend from several areas. You can take a look at our coach routes below.

Q: How do girls travel to school?

A: There is a joint coach service between LEH and Hampton School and approximately 50% of pupils use this service to travel to and from school, although this percentage is slightly higher in the Senior School and lower in the Junior School.

The school is also very well connected with local transport links. There are two bus routes that operate along Hanworth Road, the R70 from the Richmond area and the 111 which runs from Kingston via Hanworth and Hounslow. In addition, the 285 operates along Uxbridge Road and the R68 along Hampton Hill High Street. The nearest railway station is Hampton, which is connected to LEH by the 111 bus or is a 15-minute walk.

Additionally, late coaches operate as an option for girls in Year 5 upwards. These run along five routes leaving school at 6pm, route details can be found on the website. The late coach services will continue to operate if there is sufficient demand to make them economically feasible.

Q: Is there any before and after school care available?

A: Yes! We know that many of our families depend on wraparound care for their daughters and we aim to support this as much as we can with flexible options.

We offer a daily breakfast club from 7.30am where pupils can enjoy both hot and cold breakfast choices. We also run a tea and prep club after school with flexible booking arrangements and different collection time options up to 6pm Monday-Thursday, and 5pm on Fridays. Pupils attending tea and prep can do their home work and enjoy a light meal of sandwiches, fruit and a drink. Breakfast club and tea and prep costs are added to your termly bill.

Junior School pupils are also able to choose from a wide range of after school clubs, many of which are run by teachers and free for pupils to attend. These are offered alongside other clubs from external providers which may incur a cost. If any club finishes earlier than parents are able to collect, pupils can also go into tea and prep afterwards.
