Sunday 8th March marked this year’s International Women’s Day and to show our commitment to this movement, LEH will be holding a week of activities across the school. This year we are encouraging the girls to get really involved in the issues facing women today through assemblies, talks, discussion, debate and fun!
The Programme includes:
- International Women’s Day Assemblies in our Junior and Senior Schools led by our Upper Six Creative Directors.
- A Wear Purple Non-Uniform Day in exchange for bringing in a hygiene product for the school’s charities, Helping Hands Teddington and Crossroads Care Surrey.
- In IWD Purple Smoothie Station
- IWD Talks from two inspirational women. Dr Lorraine Budd will be describing her road into the usually male-dominated science of Physics and alumna, Amy Swainston. Amy is a leading Historian, currently working with two partner organisations on putting together a public programme to commemorate the Equal Franchise Act, 1928 – the legislation which extended the franchise to all women in the UK on the same terms as men, She is also an expert on the history around female citizenship, political engagement and campaigning in the 1920s-1930s.
- An IWD joint quiz with Hampton School.
- Junior School rosette making to commemorate their everyday female heroes.
- Senior School create your own IWD tote bag.
- A Senior School debating competition on various IWD topics.
