It has been another action-packed and successful week of sport at LEH, with pupils demonstrating resilience, teamwork and determination across netball, gymnastics, swimming and cross-country. Despite challenging weather conditions and tough competition, our teams and individuals rose to the occasion, delivering impressive performances, notable victories and several qualification achievements. From strong netball fixtures and high-scoring gymnastics routines to borough swimming success and national cross-country qualification, it has been a week that truly reflects the commitment and talent within LEH sport.
Netball
LEH v Gordon’s School
On Saturday, we had a reduced fixture for our netball teams against Gordon’s School due to the poor weather we have been experiencing.
We started the day with the first round consisting of Senior 1st, U12A and U13A. The Senior 1st team had a fantastic win, implementing many tactical skills practised in training and backing up their win from the Sisters ‘n’ Sport quarter final. The U12A’s also took the win 12-6, showing off all the hard work they have been putting into training. The U13As had a tightly contested game resulting in a draw.
In the Second round, we saw our Senior 2nd team, U15 A and Bs take to court. Our Senior 2nd team saw lots of new combinations, with players available for the match. It was a competitive game but unfortunately resulted in a loss but a good run out for the players. The U15B and C team had tough opposition against Gordon’s A and B teams. Whilst both teams pieced together some great netball it wasn’t quite enough to come away with the win, but both teams take a lot of learnings from their games respectively.
The Third round had our U16A and Bs play and the U14Bs playing against Gordon’s U14As. The U16A&Bs had convincing wins with great individual and team performances, building good confidence going into the last half term of the season. The U14Bs facing the opposition A team had a hard match, which resulted in a loss, but confidence can be gained from the resilience shown by the team in their continued effort throughout the match.
Well done to the Players of the Matches, Lila, Isabella, Kiki, Isla, Charlie, Amy, Alana, Kitty, Maddy, Mansha, Amaya, Isabella, Aisling, Phoebe, Sienna, Raffy and Zosia.
Sisters n Sport South Schools’ Shield Competition
On Wednesday, our Senior 1st team travelled to Churcher’s College in Petersfield for the semi-final of the Sisters n Sport South Schools’ Shield competition. After a shaky start we settled into the game and kept the game at level pegging the whole time. With the game coming down to a ‘golden goal’ finish, we sadly took a one goal loss. However, this does not take away from the incredible motivation and drive to take this game on from the team and we could not be more proud of their conduct and resilience. Player of the match went to Lizzy.
LEH v Surbiton High School
On Thursday, our U15A and B and Senior 2nd team played Surbiton High School. The U15A&B teams had two competitive matches with some excellent attack and defence in both. The A team had a strong win 27-13 with the B team also performing very well, finishing with a 19-11 win. Our Senior 2nd team played well against a strong Surbiton side, sadly losing the match overall. Well done to the 3 teams on their games and the players of the matches: Cecilia G, Aishnavi R, Zoe H, Tara S, Lulu S.
Gymnastics
ISGA 4 Piece Competition
Last Saturday, we took five of our Senior Gym Squad to the ISGA 4 Piece Competition where all gymnasts performed set and voluntary routines on both floor and vault. Our girls were calm and composed and for some this was only their second competition. We were given a special mention by the head vault judge as we were the highest scoring team on vault, showing power and strength in the two-flight phases. Special mention went to Emilie C who scored the highest vault score of the day with a 9.5! Congratulations to the whole team.
London Schools Gymnastics Association Milano Floor and Vault Competition
On Wednesday, six of our Senior Gym Squad took part in the London Schools Gymnastics Association Milano Floor and Vault Competition at Streatham and Clapham Prep School. We had a range of gymnasts competing from Year 7 to Year 11. In the morning session our gymnasts performed individual floor routines and voluntary vaults, and the afternoon session was filled with the competitors sport acro trio routines. The gymnasts performed their routines with control and flair, and they made their coaches proud. After half term we look forward to competing in the LSGA Floor and Vault Competition on and the LSGA Tumbling Competition.
Swimming
It’s been a hugely successful week for LEH swimming with an overall win as the top girls’ team in the Borough and many medals won at the Richmond Borough’s Swimming Competition hosted by LEH on the 6th February. Well done to all squad swimmers who took part and thanks to the volunteer officials who helped run a well organised event.
Additionally, on Tuesday, we travelled to Latymer Upper School for the London Swim League North of the River Finals to compete against other qualifying schools in the hopes of making the finals in the summer term. Both events offered exceptional competition and our swimmers rose to the challenge with top 3 finishes is nearly every individual race and relay event. Well done swimmers!
Cross-Country
LEH headed over to Harrow on Tuesday afternoon to compete in the Middlesex Championship Cross Country, representing Richmond. It was a tough hilly course with the typical British weather we have been experiencing recently. All our athletes dug deep and had great races in their age group categories, securing some strong individual positions. Results are as follows; (Minor Girls) Arabella P 9th, Sofia K 26th, (Junior Girls) Alice B 2nd, (Inter Girls) Holly T 9th, Rosy C 13th and Isla M 18th. Congratulations to Alice and Holly who have both qualified for Nationals!
