This year’s Old Vicarage School (OVC) Cross-Country Relays Race on Monday 2nd February was, as always, a wonderful event – even on a gloomy, damp February afternoon.
With fingers firmly crossed that the rain would hold off, we were delighted when the event went ahead as planned. Representatives from each of our year Junior School year groups squeezed onto the LEH minibus, packed with anticipation and team spirit. Despite the grey skies, there was a buzz of excitement, with lots of animated chatter, laughter and a few understandable nerves.
The soft ground made for hard running, and battling a cold wind along the back straight was particularly tough when the girls had already given their all however, hearing their teammates and family spectators cheering near the finish provided a huge boost as the final strides approached.
We were immensely proud of the girls. They dug deep when the going got tough, encouraged one another throughout, and showed real resilience and determination.
Thank you to all the mums, dads, nannies and other family members who came to support, and a special thank you to Mr Burnett for helping us out with transport.
Results:
In the competition for the combined result, there was a tie on points. It was so tight, the organisers had to look at individual positions in the separate races. Every girl in our team can feel proud of their contribution and for trying their very hardest when it mattered. While it’s never just about winning, the girls really wanted it, fought back when things felt hard, and truly ran their socks off. You can see just how much they enjoyed the event in the photos.
U8 LEH Bronze – 3rd place
U9 LEH Gold – 1st place
U10 LEH – 4th place
U11 LEH Silver – 2nd place
Our consistency across all the year groups meant that LEH came home with the winner’s shield. Well done girls!
